Weekend Getaway – Macedon and Hepburn, Victoria
Autumn is a great time to visit Regional Victoria.
So, with a list of essentials, namely scarf, boots and a warm jacket I head for the Macedon Ranges and Hepburn Region.
Chilly nights are complimented by warm sunny days and my senses are treated to a mixture of fresh country air filled with smoke curling from the fireplace.
Staying on a horse farm in the tiny town of Carlsruhe, about 6 kilometres out of Kyneton and on another farm in Newham the silence away from my busy inner city existence gives way to the perfect sleep.
The nights may be filled with rest but the days are for exploring.
On the edge of Wombat Forest and Lerderderg State Park, the town of Trentham is glowing in alluring colours, the smell of freshly baked bread draws me away from the many boutique stores and into the Redbeard Bakery.
I can’t resist the temptation of Daylesford. Leaves float to the ground as a trail of city escapees pace up and down the main street. At the Clayfire Gallery I conjure up a wish list and rummage through an eclectic collection of antiques and memorabilia at the Mill Markets on the edge of town.
As the sun descends for another day and the brisk air filters in I retreat to the veranda for a glass of red wine. Tonight the spacious landscape offers a special treat, a clear view of a shiny full moon.
